This is a goddamn beautifully written post. While the niceties of gin are lost on this vodka-lover's palate, I'd certainly belly up for more of the voice. Rock on.

What a great analysis of gin...both the category and these specific products. I have the #6 (and like it very much), and just got to try a few sips of the #11 yesterday thanks to the generosity of a friend.

I really need to find out where he got it. ;-)

The last I heard from Sonja was that they are working on building up distribution in places outside of the Midwest. Their products are available in Northern California and are just now becoming available in the Southland, but as with all things booze-related there are a lot of hoops to jump through to make that happen. Rest assured North Shore is working hard to bring you gin (and absinthe and aquavit...).

Frederic -- The No. 11 is, or as least as of 2008 was, available to retail establishments after only being available to bars/restaurants. But to be fair, I am in Chicago so it is obviously easier to get it here. I'm not sure what the laws are where you are, but Binny's does list it on their website, and they ship, at a minimum, countrywide. http://www.binnys.com/spirits/North_Shore_Gin_No._11_151456.html

And yes, the Aquavit is very good as well.

We got a bottle of No. 6 when Andrea was visiting her family out in Indiana. We can't find it here, and now I'm annoyed that I didn't convince her to get their Aquavit as well (although I have since been promised a taste of it at Tales). Apparently the No. 11 is only being sold to bars, and not on the shelf for normal consumers.

Got to try these at the American Distiller Institute's conference a few months back. Fantastic stuff. I loved the 11. Guess I need to take a trip to Culver City.
