Asian Blonde

December 17th, 2005  |  Published in sake

Generally speaking, it takes two or three drinks to loosen me up enough to try something that I think sounds like a bad idea. The Asian Blonde was one such bad idea.

During an afternoon of experimentation (insert first drink here), we decided that, since we happened to have some carrot juice and some bottles of soju gifted to us the previous Christmas (insert second drink here), it was now or never to try the curious citrus-carrot-sake concoction.

3 oz soju
3/4 oz carrot juice
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice

Add soju, carrot juice, lime juice and lemon juice to a shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strin into chilled glass.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough in me to think this was still a good idea once I had tasted it, but I can say it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It isn’t hard to drink, but you have to like carrot juice (which I don’t mind) mixed with lemon and lime (not so hot).

Unless you’re feeling incredibly brave (or stupid), keep away. Go mix yourself a Tom Collins instead.
