Singapore Sling

If there is a better name for a drink than the Singapore Sling, I don’t think I want to know what it is. It expresses everything you need to know about the beverage with a minimum of fuss, drawing pictures of remote and exotic ports of call glimpsed during a whirlwind tour of the South Pacific.

In reality, the Singapore Sling doesn’t make me think of Singapore (or anything other than the bottom of the glass, honestly), but I do so love Heering and lime!

2 oz gin
1/2 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz Heering
2 oz lime juice
2 tsp sugar
club soda

Pour gin, lime juice and bitters over crushed ice in a highball glass; add sugar and stir. Add Cointreau and Heering, fill with soda, garnish with a maraschino cherry lime slice and serve.

Notes: I am going to experiment with other recipes, as this one seemed a bit too lime-y and unbalanced. I didn’t feel that the mixture was right, leaving too much sour and not enough sweet on the palatte. The garnish was awesome, however, and I really enjoyed dressing up the glass.

PS—Don’t use a lot of soda. This gets watery really fast.
