Chambord Kamikaze
December 4th, 2005 | Published in liqueur, vodka
This is the general formula of a night in with my parents: parents come over, parents and I drink copious amounts of vodka and/or gin, we eat dinner, we drink some more, have a cup of coffee and attempt to sober up. Generally, my mother sticks with a strict diet of vodka & tonic with lime, but during the last (and terribly eventful) get together, she wanted something new.
Thusly, the Chambord Kamikaze made its way into my shaker. It is very fun to make (”violently muddling” is a great way to start any drink), is a beautiful color, and it’s very tasy. Plus, it will knock you on your ass.
3 oz vodka
1/2 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz Chambord
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
half a lime, dicedPlace all ingredients in a shaker and muddle violently. Shake briefly with ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass, garnish with a slice of lime, and serve.
The fresh citrus keeps this from becoming too sugary sweet, though the Chambord color and flavor comes through nicely. My tip is to drink this one quickly, before the pulp from the juice settles, and to make sure your glass is super cold, as it tends to warm up quickly unless you chill your vodka (also recommended).
