Olympia

After purchasing a bottle of Heering cherry liqueur, I became enamoured with it. Drinks that contain Heering are automatically on my list of drinks to make, thus the Olympia was a sure addition to my shaker.

I mixed this prior to realizing that Bacardi is not the way to go with rum, so I know this drink could be much better with a higher quality rum. When I make my way back to the rum aisle, I’ll have to give it another try.

2 oz rum
1/2 oz Heering
1 1/2 oz lime juice

Shake ingredients and strain into chilled martini glass.

This drink is satisfyingly tart from the Heering and lime juice, but I think that the chalky flavor of the cheap rum doesn’t do justice to the flavors. With a better quality (and sweeter) rum, the tartness would be countered much more effectively, making this a superior drink, rather than the relatively mediocre beverage it was this time around.
