Onion Breath

November 21st, 2005  |  Published in vodka

This is not a drink for the faint of stomach. If you don’t like onions or vinegar, stay away from the Onion Breath. Then again, if, like me, you like Dirty Martinis and all things pickled, you’ll probably like this.

The quality of the cocktail onions is the key to this one (aside, naturally, from the quality of the vodka). Soggy onions or super-briny vinegar will overpower the already almighty flavors of this mixture.

2 oz vodka
1/2 oz cocktail onion vinegar
1/2 oz lemon juice
drop of Worcestershire sauce
cocktail onions to garnish

Shake ingredients together and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with cocktail onions.

This is one of the few drinks that I am fairly sure I got right the first time. I don’t know if I could make it all the way to the bottom of the glass unless I could keep it super cold, as the vinegar doesn’t hold up well as it warms. This is a hard drink to mess up, though, because the flavors are so pronounced.

You should probably serve this one with a breath mint.
